Team Bios
Thomas B. Martin — CEO
Tom Martin founded Absolute Multimedia, Inc., the predecessor of NextScreen in 1998 while working at Dell Computer Corporation. At Dell, Martin was a vice president of marketing and business development from 1991 – 2000. During that time he directed Dell's worldwide marketing, product management and brand strategy. Prior to Dell, Martin served as vice president of marketing for Toshiba America Information Systems and as a vice president of the laptop business unit of NEC. Martin was also a senior consultant with McKinsey & Company following his graduation from Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
Since leaving Dell, Martin has also co-founded nFusion, an integrated marketing agency which ranked 85th of the Inc. 500 in 2006. He also founded Mirabella, a fractional ownership resort real estate firm, which was acquired by Exclusive Resorts in 2003. He serves on the boards of Accent Capital, the Austin Lyric Opera and the Jack S. Blanton Museum of Art.
Jay Watson — CRO
Jay Watson joined NextScreen in 2006 as a partner and has since assumed the duties of chief revenue officer. He and NextScreen founder Tom Martin have worked together since 1990. Prior to NextScreen, Watson served as one of the three founding partners for nFusion where he still serves as a managing partner. nFusion is an integrated marketing agency that has received numerous accolades including ranking 85th in the Inc. 500 in 2006.
Before co-founding nFusion, Watson worked for Dell Computer Corporation in several senior sales and marketing positions over an 11-year period (1987 – 1998), including large account sales and marketing, brand management and retail. Watson also served as a marketing representative for IBM after graduation from Clemson University.
Additionally, since 1998 Watson has served as a venture partner, active investor in several diversified businesses and as an active board member in a national sport marketing turnaround. Locally, Watson has been a founding director in two non-profits, The First Tee of Greater Austin (serving over 800 Austin youth annually) and Trinity Episcopal school (a K – 8 school with over 350 students enrolled).
John Hinners — CFO
John Hinners began his career with Arthur Andersen, followed by a series of senior financial management roles in rapidly growing companies, including CFO of BSG, an information technology services startup sold in 1996 to a public company for $375 million. As CFO for Perficient (PRFT-NASDAQ) another IT services startup, Hinners helped take the company public in 1999 and managed additional financings and acquisitions.
More recently, Hinners served as COO/CFO of Interstate Connections, a retailer of cellular technology through a network of 90 stores/kiosks operating in major truck stops throughout the United States. Hinners has been active in various charitable organizations, including his role as finance director for The First Tee of Greater Austin.
Anita Erickson — Vice President/Marketing
Prior to joining NextScreen Anita Erickson was a consultant with nFusion Group, and acted as Publishing Director in the development and launch of NextScreen's first digital magazine, WINDING ROAD. In her role at nFusion Erickson also worked with NextScreen publications' The Absolute Sound and AVguide.com, as well as with Toshiba Notebook Division and Mindwave Research.
Before joining nFusion Erickson was a consumer Marketing Manager at Dell, Inc., responsible for relationship-marketing programs including catalog, e-mail and online advertising.
E. James Hannon — Vice President, Business Development
Jim Hannon started his professional career in 1979 as head of the market analysis/research team at PBS flagship station WNET/Thirteen, and moved to videogame and home computer pioneer Atari as a business development/product manager. Hannon was general manager of WCI Labs, the advanced product development group for Warner Communications, and later joined desktop video pioneer, Mindset Computer, as director of business development. He was vice-president of marketing and sales at Ironics, a multi-processing computer firm, and later at Opcode, a developer of digital software/hardware tools and applications for music professionals and consumers. Hannon was chief operating officer for tomandandy, a bi-coastal music production company creating original soundtracks for major motion pictures, television series and national spots. Most recently, Hannon has been vice president of business development at Convergence Equity, a venture capital firm with Thomas B. Martin as the general partner.
Hannon has forged major strategic relationships with Microsoft, Apple Computer, The World Bank, Victor Company of Japan, JVC America, Creative Labs, Warner Cable, General Dynamics, Citibank and Radio Shack, among others, and has consulted for Fortune 500, mass-market consumer and media companies, as well as high-tech start-ups, private foundations, venture firms and non-profit organizations. Hannon graduated with distinction from Stanford University and has an MBA from UCLA with dual concentrations in management in the arts, and marketing. Hannon helped launch The Literacy Center Education Network and served on its board and is on the board of HAWT power, a wind energy start-up.
